What’s My Favorite Part About Being a Photographer?

It’s a question I hear often, and honestly, it’s impossible to pick just one thing. Being a photographer in Columbus, GA, has been such a meaningful journey for me, filled with moments of joy, growth, and connection. But if I had to narrow it down, here’s what makes it so special.

Five years ago, I picked up a professional camera for the very first time. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was driven by the desire to capture sweet moments with my newborn son. I wanted to freeze time—to hold onto how tiny and delicate he was and to preserve those fleeting, precious family memories.

Every chance I got, I practiced. I spent hours shooting, editing, and learning from my mistakes. Before long, friends and family started asking me to take their photos too. It was during those early days that I discovered just how much I loved giving another mom the opportunity to be in the frame instead of behind the camera. To capture how small her baby was, to document her family's joy, and to let her truly embrace the moment.

In 2021, I took the leap and officially registered myself as a business. Since then, I’ve learned so much and have had the privilege of capturing memories for so many wonderful families. Watching those families grow year after year is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

This year brought some exciting changes, including expanding my business to help other photographers grow their business through blogging and Pinterest marketing. I’ve discovered a new passion in supporting fellow photographers, helping them connect with their dream clients, and watching their businesses flourish.

Reflecting on this journey fills me with gratitude. What started as a simple desire to capture my own family’s moments has blossomed into a career filled with purpose and joy. And that’s what I truly love about being a photographer—turning fleeting moments into lasting memories, connecting with incredible families, and continually growing alongside this amazing community.

Reflecting on a Year of Photography

The year 2024 has been one of growth, joy, and transformation for my photography business. I’ve had the privilege of photographing over 30 wonderful families, capturing their unique stories and preserving their cherished memories. It’s been so heartwarming to reconnect with familiar faces and welcome new ones, building relationships that continue to inspire me. This year, I expanded the artwork I offer, introducing framed portraits, custom birth announcements, holiday cards, and stunning matted albums, each designed to bring families’ memories to life in meaningful ways. My client closet also grew to include many new beautiful gowns for moms, as well as the beginnings of a collection for children and husbands, ensuring every session feels effortless and special.

One of the most impactful changes I made this year came from listening to my clients. I noticed many new moms arriving at their newborn’s session hungry, overwhelmed from the morning rush of getting a baby out the door. To ease their stress, I now offer a light brunch and the option for hair and makeup at my studio. All they need to worry about is waking up, brushing their teeth, and packing the diaper bag. These changes were essential for me to ensure new moms felt relaxed, cared for, and ready to focus on making memories with their families.

2024 also marked the start of a new chapter for me as I discovered a love for blogging and Pinterest marketing. Seeing the incredible growth these tools brought to my business in 2023 inspired me to help other photographers who struggle with content creation. I now work with 2-3 photographers each month, sharing my expertise to help them connect with their dream clients and grow their businesses. This year has been a beautiful reminder of why I started this journey—to capture moments, serve others, and create a community that uplifts and inspires.

Why I Love Being a Columbus, GA Photographer

Being a photographer in Columbus, GA, fills my heart in ways I can hardly put into words. It's not just the incredible families I meet who bring so much joy and laughter into my days—it’s also the deep connection I feel to this city’s vibrant beauty and charm. Each season here is like a new chapter in a storybook, offering fresh opportunities to create unforgettable memories. From the warm and golden hues of autumn leaves to the colorful blooms of spring, every session I get the opportunity to be apart of feels like magic waiting to happen.

I have a special love for Midtown Columbus, where the historic streets, tall trees and cozy neighborhoods add so much character and warmth to my photos. In between sessions, you might find me tucked away at Iron Bank Coffee or Midtown Coffee, savoring an smoothie or a cup of hot chocolate and a quick bite while I edit photos or pour my heart into blogs for the families I serve. This city inspires me every single day, and I’m endlessly grateful for the chance to capture its essence while preserving the stories and moments that make it so wonderfully unique.
